Ciudad de Lucena arrive this Sunday (19:00) at a stadium where the sky-blues have left their mark: ten previous meetings, with two Xerez wins, four draws and four Lucena victories

One of the most frequent fixtures of the last decade in Andalusian football returns, and for the first time in the Segunda RFEF. Xerez CD will host Ciudad de Lucena this Sunday at 19:00 at Chapín, an opponent they have already faced ten times at home across several divisions and competitions. It is a fixture that has become a regular one, with an intense rivalry, between two teams that have almost always competed for the top places in the table.

Ten meetings at four venues

The meetings between the blue-and-whites and the sky-blues have been spread across the División de Honor, the Tercera RFEF, the RFAF Cup and the promotion play-off to the Segunda RFEF. They have been played at La Granja, the Pedro Garrido, Chapín and the Muñoz Pérez in Estepona.

The record of those ten matches favours the Córdoba side: two Xerez wins, four draws and four Lucena victories.

An opponent that usually leaves Jerez with something

The figures carry an important nuance for Xerez fans. At the various grounds in the city, the matches almost always tipped in Lucena's favour. That is why Lucena are, on their record, one of Xerez's bogey teams in recent years.

Zequi, on the other side in 2022

The reunion also has a curious detail. In 2022, when the two teams met in the promotion play-off to the Segunda RFEF held at the Muñoz Pérez in Estepona, Zequi belonged to Ciudad de Lucena. Today he is a key piece for Xerez CD.

On Sunday, the blue-and-whites have a good opportunity to change that trend, in front of their own fans and with the table getting tighter.
