The Copa del Rey match between Xerez CD and Cádiz CF, to be played on Wednesday 28 October at Chapín, has been declared high risk by the relevant authorities. In addition, Renfe will not lay on a return train for Cádiz supporters, Cádiz CF has announced on social media, which complicates the security operation and could lead many Cádiz fans to decide against travelling to Jerez.
Xerez CD host Cádiz CF on Wednesday 28 October at 21:00 at Chapín, in the first round of the Copa del Rey. The Cádiz club explained in a statement that it tried to negotiate a return train with Renfe for its supporters after the match, but it was not possible. The lack of that train means the security operation planned for a high-risk match has to be rethought.
Fewer away fans
Without a return train, many Cádiz supporters may think twice about travelling to Jerez. The club reserved the Fondo Norte for them, with tickets at 25 euros.
What will Xerez do with the Fondo Norte?
The big question is what Xerez CD will now do with the Fondo Norte seats that may be left empty. One possibility would be to split the stand in two to sell the available tickets on match day. We will have to wait for the club's decision.
Demand for the derby has been high: Tribuna and Preferencia tickets sold out eleven days before the match, and there were few seats left in the Fondo Sur.
