After a one-all draw at the Domecq, Xerez won 1-3 at the Ramón de Carranza, in the last direct Cup tie between the two clubs

With the first-round draw of the Copa del Rey now settled and the provincial derby set for Wednesday 28 October at Chapín, Xerez memories travel back to the 1985-86 season, the last time Xerez CD and Cádiz CF faced each other in a direct knockout tie in the competition.

A draw at the Domecq

The first leg was played on 23 October 1985 at the Domecq stadium in Jerez and ended in a one-all draw. The result left the tie open ahead of the clash in Cádiz.

Azulino triumph at the Carranza

The second leg was played on 6 November 1985 at the Ramón de Carranza stadium. Xerez won the derby 1-3 on Cádiz’s ground and sealed their progress with a 4-2 aggregate.

Forty-one years later, a new chapter

More than four decades after that tie, the two sides will meet again in the Cup. This time it will be a single match, with Xerez at home at Chapín. The azulinos, once again cast as the underdog against a higher-division opponent, will try to repeat the feat and feed the hopes of a fanbase that is already dreaming of another derby for the history books.
