Win or win

Xerez CD host Marbella today (19:00, Chapín) with no margin for error. Saturday's results have tightened the table and, against a direct rival on the same 6 points, only a win will do. It is time for the improvement seen in their play to finally turn into goals.

What Saturday left behind

The matchday began yesterday with four games, and almost all the movement was at the top. Recreativo thrashed Antoniano 5-0 and go top on 17 points. Betis Deportivo drew in Mijas and Ciudad de Lucena, who won at Chapín a week ago, also took only a point in Estepona. Don Benito and Linares shared the spoils.

Xerez, 13th in the play-out place, are 8 points behind Don Benito and Badajoz, who on 14 currently hold the last play-off spots. The gap can still be closed, but there is no room for more slip-ups at home.

A match worth double

Opposite them are Marbella, level on 6 points. A win would take Xerez to 9 points and leave a direct rival behind. A defeat, on the other hand, could sink them into the relegation zone, because Atlético Central and Tamaraceite also play below them.

Let the improvement show on the scoreboard

Abel Segovia's side have taken steps forward in their play, and the coach himself says they create more chances than average. But Xerez have scored only four goals in seven matchdays, the second-lowest tally in the group. Against Lucena they played well and lost 0-1. Today deserving it is not enough: they have to score and win to start looking towards the top half.
