Xerez CD have scored only 5 goals in the first eight league matchdays, not even one per game. It is the lowest figure of the last four seasons at this stage and the second worst in the group. The lack of finishing up front explains why the team have 9 points, below previous campaigns.

Three goals fewer than in recent years

In the three previous seasons, Xerez reached the eighth matchday with 8 goals scored. That was the case two seasons ago, under Checa, and also last season, under Galiano. It even happened in the promotion year, the 2023/24 season in Tercera Federación. This campaign they have three fewer.

In the whole of Segunda RFEF, Group IV, only Las Palmas Atlético, with 4, have scored fewer than Xerez.

The defence no longer makes up for it

The lack of goals is nothing new at Xerez, but in recent years a good defence covered it up. In the promotion year, the team did not concede a single goal in the first eight matchdays and collected 20 points. Under Checa they had conceded 6 and had 13 points. Under Galiano, 5 conceded and 14 points.

This year Xerez have conceded 6 goals, the same as Checa's side. The difference is up front: three goals fewer have translated into four points fewer.

Segovia's challenge

Abel Segovia himself has acknowledged that his team need to finish the chances they create. Turning those attacks into goals is the next step for Xerez to start looking up the table.
